Oh Whoopi, What Were You Thinking
Don’t compare or contrast anything to the holocaust
We all know what she said. If you missed it, here it is:
In a nutshell, Whoopi said that the holocaust was not about race. It was about “man’s inhumanity to man.”
The predictable furor erupted and Whoopi has since apologized and has been suspended for two weeks as punishment.
Personally, I’m okay with the punishment. It didn’t need to be more severe. I think Whoopi was trying to be deep and intelligent but clearly missed the mark totally.
The holocaust was about race. The Jews were considered not only an inferior race but a dangerous one as well. Here’s a great opinion piece on the topic.
Whoopi made the mistake of attributing whiteness to the Jewish people. She used 21st-century language to mid-20th century language. Today Jewish people are placed in the white camp.
