Micaela tugged on her loose tooth.

“Stop it,” begged Sally.

“It has to come out today,” said Micaela, looking in her bedroom mirror.

“Why?”

Micaela explained, “Because we leave for camp tomorrow and the tooth fairy doesn’t go to camp.”

“I thought fairies could fly anywhere,” said Sally.

“Nope, you have to be at home to get money,” said Micaela. She wanted to surprise her mom with a birthday gift.

“Okay. I have an idea. Do you have any string?”

“I think there’s some in the kitchen.

They found some string under the sink. They attached one end to a doorknob and tied the other end around Micaela’s tooth.

“Ready?” Sally asked.

Micaela nodded. Sally slammed the door. The string snapped leaving the loose tooth intact.

“Bite into an apple,” suggested Sally, pointing to the fruit basket on the counter.

Micaela chose an apple and bit it.

“Ouch!”

The tooth bent back but didn’t break off.
